Final leg! More of the balloon tour on Munich picture gallery 3
The third page of great pictures of Munich Germany.
On with the hot air balloon tour.
REV IT UP: Down there is the BWM complex. See the BMW Welt centre? That's where you can pick up your new auto, if you're lucky enough to be able to afford one. If not, you can always stick to ballooning! |
WHERE THE ACTION HAPPENS: Let's float back in a south-easterly direction now. Look! There's the Theresienwiese, the big open area where the Munich Oktoberfest takes place.
Looks like they're setting up for something now. See the little columned-building with the statue? That's the Ruhmeshalle (Hall of Fame) and Bavaria Statue. You can climb up to its head through the inside. |
FOOD, GLORIOUS FOOD: Let's go south from the downtown area now. Just a wee bit down and we're over the Vitualienmarkt, Munich's famous outdoor market.
See all the covered pavilions in the middle? The long hall to the side is the Schrannerhalle, a culinary cornucopia housing dozens of food vendors. |
GATEWAY: Further south we find the Sendlinger Tor, one of three remaining city gateways. There are plenty of interesting stores in this area if shopping is what gets your heart racing. |
COMDEDY CENTRAL: And there's another one of the old gateways, the Isartor. It's now home to the Valentin-Karlstadt Museum, a wacky little place dedicated to two of Munich's most famous comedians/performers. |

CURIOUS?: Hey, look down there? In that island in the Isar River is the Deutsches Museum, the world's largest science and technology museum. Inside you can learn about everything from submarines to sub-atomics. |
RIVER BEACH: Here we are at the Floßlände in Munich's south. All those islands in the river are top spots for lazing about and having barbecues in the warmer months. |
MENAGERIE: And hey, there's the Munich Zoo. The vaguely domed building down there is the elephant house, the zoo's symbol. It was the world's first "geo-zoo" where the animals are arranged into districts, representing the world's continents and regions. |
PARTY TIME: looks like a boring industrial zone, doesn't it? Well, it used to be. Now it's the Kultfabrik, Munich's big disco zone. There's over 40 party venues - enough for a very big Saturday night, and then some. |
END STATION: And finally, the first and last Munich ground many visitors tread, the Haupbahnhof (Main Train Station). Let's descend now, shall we? Now you've seen the city from above, maybe you have a better idea of what you want to check out more closely from the ground. |
