Aus is! for another year. Oktoberfest winds upAs I write, Munich’s biggest annual magnet is about to wind up for another year. Yep, the Oktoberfest 2010 is due to spill its final suds on Monday, October 4.
It was the first Monday night and I met up with a friend of a friend from Australia. It was an awesome night to go, none of the tents were so packed out they were closed but there was still a heady, party atmosphere wherever we went. One big change this year was the absence of smoking in the tents, it was banned after a referendum a couple of months ago. It worked fine despite many people’s concerns making the smokers go in and out all the time would block up the doorways. And it sure was a change being able to see clearly throughout the tents. Here’s to clean air!
Did you dance on the benches, throw up on one of the rides, meet the love of your life for 10 minutes out the back of a beer tent? Whatever your experiences I’d love to hear about them. Why not take a couple of minnies and jot down your thoughts on the festival. You can also send in any photos you want and they’ll be put together into a mini-webpage on Destination Munich. Here’s where you can contribute… Your Oktoberfest stories Prague excursionAnother highlight of my month was a long-weekend excursion to Prague, the charming capital of the Czech Republic. What an amazing city. Beautiful architecture, hearty goulash, pumping nightclubs and dirt cheap beer. A great place to add to your itinerary, even if it’s not exactly off the beaten path anymore!
The bus goes from Nuremburg in Bavaria’s north. You can book a combined train from Munich / bus ticket on the Deutsche Bahn (German Rail) website, check that out here. Deutsche Bahn English website The journey takes about five hours from Munich. I managed to get a ticket for less than 50€ return, not a bad deal at all. What's going on Munich in October? The third annual Munich Auer Dult takes place October 16 to 24 – that’s basically a huge outdoor market with its own beer tent – a treasure hunter’s delight!See here Munich Auer Dult to find out more. The Munich Marathon takes place on October 10. Joke of the month-Why didn't the scarecrow go to the party?-Because he had no-body to go with! Thanks for subscribing and I’ll see you back here again about the same time next month. Peace, Stuart |
